With sadness, we share the passing of Amelia May Okai of Highland, Illinois. Amelia, born on March 3, 1932, passed away on October 21, 2026. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Joseph Bausch and Frances Whiteside; her daughters, Rebecca Okai and Vickie Okai; her granddaughter Dana Warnecke; her siblings, Vivian Brittin (Bill), Joe Bausch (Nita), Edwina Kimutis (Ray), Don Okai (Opal) and Emily Hirst (Glen); her parents-in-law, Ted and Mary Okai; and her stepfather Basil Whiteside.
She is survived by: her husband Joseph Okai; her daughters, Pam Missey (Joe) of Highland, Brenda Okai of Highland, Toni Firkus (Jim) of Smyrna, TN, Diane Kloss (Russ) of Highland and Kyra Stratman (Jerry) of Collinsville; and her grandchildren, Michelle Warnecke, Chris Schauster, Sarah Shafter, Jennifer Durbin (Mike), Joe Missey (Brian), Josh Missey (Melissa), Jared Missey (Lauren), Jordan Missey, Natalie Lee (Kegan), Andy Campbell Firkus (Darby), Alex Firkus (Justin Allen), Stephanie Comrie (Chris), Christa Bense (Jason), Ashley Haukap (Chris), Tom Kloss (Katie), Melissa Carey (Brian), Nick Kloss (Christina), Chelsey Boeser (Jeremy), Katie VonBokel (Jacob), Alisha DeFrain (Hampton), Dylan Kloss, Jacob Kloss, Amelia Simmons (Justin) and Roger Stratman (Sara Tyree).
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 26th 2026 from 9:00 AM to 10:45 AM at the Moss Funeral Home (1501 9th St, Highland, IL 62249). A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 26th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Highland City Cemetery (12301 Koepfli Ln, Highland, IL 62249).
In lieu of flowers, plants, or other gifts, memorials may be made to Highland Animal Shelter (MEHS) and will be received at the visitation or by mail at Moss Funeral Home, 1501 9th St., Highland, IL 62249, which is serving the family.
