He was predeceased by : his parents, Albert Simms and Ella Simms (Medler); his siblings, Wanda Roosevelt, Bill, Don and Lois Goodson; and his son-in-law Michael Douglas.

He is survived by : his former life partner Mary Lou Swanson; his children, Carl, Abby, Rachel, Aaron (Missy) and Jennifer (Jeremy); his wife Brenda Dietz; his grandchildren, Madeline, Caleb, Isaac, Andrew, Elijah, Ella, Elena and Oliver; and his brother Larry Simms. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
