He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy H. Schmidt and Dorothy Schmidt (Frisse); his wife Ruth Miller; his brother Richard "Wally" Schmidt; and his brother-in-law Tom Ohren.
He is survived by: his son Randall Schmidt (Brooke (Meyers)); his grandchildren, Ophelia and Oliver Miller; his daughter Rachael Zurliene (Mark); his grandchildren, Allison and Cooper Zurliene; his siblings, Ron Schmidt (Mary Jo), Sandy Ohren (late Tom) and Rosemary Dorsey (Bruce); Judy Schaefer (Fred). He is also survived by family; and many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, September 1st 2026 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Weber & Rodney Funeral Home (304 N Main St, Edwardsville, IL 62025). A funeral Mass was held on Wednesday, September 2nd 2026 at 10:00 AM at the St. Boniface Catholic Church (110 N Buchanan St, Edwardsville, IL 62025).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any organization or program dedicated to the care, education, and inclusion of children of all abilities, a cause that reflected Rodger's lifelong passion.
