He was predeceased by: his parents, Bracey and Mattie; his siblings, Edward Mayes (late Jenny), Claude Mayes, Frances Twilley (late Joe) and Jenny Dunning (Robert); and his pet Muttley.

He is survived by: his children, LaShaun Mayes (Tia Guice) and Michael Williams; his sibling Thomas Mayes (Deborah); his nephews, Anthony "Butch" Lewis and Leon Williams; and his friends, Daryl Rucker, Roy Morgan and Sam Corbbins.
