He was predeceased by: his close friend S. A. Balakrishnan; his parents, Chellamal Rao and N. S. Rao; his brother Vittal; and his sister-in-law Reena.
He is survived by: his close friends, Chaks, Vatsala Srinivasan and Meenakshi; his wife Vasantha; his daughters, Meera (Edgar) and Sheela (Nur); his granddaughters, Jaya and Leila; his nieces, Meera and Krishna (Bishwajit); and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Amritha, Apurba, Meeshawn and Sushmita.
