He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Hoots and Ruth Wilson Hoots; and his siblings, Walter L. Hoots and Linda Roberts. He is survived by: his sons, David Hoots (Brianne Ballard) of Auburn and Robert Hoots (Ashley Elliott) of South Jacksonville; and his siblings, William Hoots (Debra) of Jacksonville, Mary Allen of Mississippi and Debra Hoots of Chapin. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and nephews.
