He was predeceased by: his son Jim Waltrip; his grandson Wyatt Crews; his brothers, John Waltrip (Ruth) and Bob Waltrip; and his parents, Isola Spencer and Babe Spencer.

He is survived by: his wife Bonnie Neutzman; his daughters, Jeanne Vasquez (Tino), Laurie Crews (Rick) and Susan Waltrip; his daughter-in-law Kelley Waltrip; and his grandchildren, Justin Waltrip (Amanda), Jacob Waltrip (Malory), Riley McGillicuddy (Katie), Chelsea Randall (Casey), Eli Crews, Ruby Waltrip, Andrew Vasquez and Aaron Vasquez (Alana). He is also survived by his 16 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Gale Waltrip Memorial Fund, which is being established to benefit area youth.
