He was predeceased by: his parents, Anna Sopko (Tapella) and Michael J. Sopko; his grandparents, Anthony Tapella, Frances Tappella (Theobold), Michael A. Sopko and Suzanna Sopko (Lucayi); his parents-in-law, Barbara Skoff (Wheaton), Anthony Skoff Jr. and Larry Baker; his sister-in-law Lorie Norman; and his goddaughter Patty Paluga.
He is survived by: his children, Penny Smith (Andrew), Tiffany Sopko (Miguel Guerrero) and Jay Dziuban (Rebecca); his grandchildren, John'Bubs' Quintero (Kristi), Merisa Quintero (Matthew Navarre), Jessica "Elijah" Beyer, Avie Guerrero, Starlett Dziuban (Justin), Tabatha Dziuban (Chris), Shelby Smith and Payton Smith; his great grandchildren, Kaden, Kenzie, Theo of Maddox, M. J., Mylah Mae, Maverick, Maddie, Melea, Linkyn, Emma, Allison, Kamden, Ariella and Dean; his siblings, Mike Sopko (Georgene), Greg Sopko, Anthony Sopko (Rhonda), Michelle Norris (Tim) and Kathy Sopko (Greg); his extended family, John Norman, Robin Baker, Barbiejo Dillard, Antoniette Fuhrman (Ronald), Steven Baker, Greg Baker (Amy), Gail Baker, Kim Corbett (Tom), Missy Baker, Larry Baker, Richard Baker (Teresa) and Robert Baker (Stephanie); his godchildren, Gina, B'Norris and Jessica Ray; and his close friends, Tim Norris, Gene, Carol Novak, Annette Dillard, Barb Tibble, Terry and Tina Kosicek. He is also survived by his numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 18th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Carlson Holmquist Sayles Funeral Home & Crematory (2320 Black Rd, Joliet, IL 60435). A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 19th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers memorials to Lightways Hospice will be appreciated.
