We announce the death of Robert F Stabler Sr. in Joliet, Illinois, who passed away on October 26, 2026, at the age of 84. Robert will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. He was predeceased by: his mother Mary Elizabeth Stabler; his sister Janet Sue Brooking; and his son-in-law Peter Cecil. He is survived by: his wife Wanda Stabler; his children, Bobby Stabler (Aaron), Dee Roberson (Bob), Tony Stabler and Melody Desmarais (Mike); his grandchildren, Rob Roberson (Niki), Tracy Neuliep (Brian), Cory Bieber (Erica), Mikey Desmarais (Heidi), Sean Stabler (Madison), Darren Desmarais (Jacey), Tyler Desmarais (Brittney) and Caiti Merchant (Jake); and his great grandchildren, Chloe, Bentley, Matthew, Bianca, Addie of Nessa, CC, Dae and Griffin. He is also survived by many extended family members, dear friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 29th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Forsythe Gould Funeral Home (507 S State St, Manhattan, IL 60442). A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 2nd 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Hague Funeral Home (23 W Riley St, Medora, IN 47260). The military honors will be held on Monday, November 2nd 2026 at the White River Valley Cemetery (1000 W County Rd 150 S, Medora, IN 47260).
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made directly to the family to help cover funeral and service expenses during this difficult and unexpected time.
