With profound sadness, we say goodbye to Stephen M. Horath of Joliet, Illinois, whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of many. He was predeceased by: his parents, Irvin Horath and Valgene Horath; his son-in-law Keith Calkins; and his grandson Adam Calkins. He is survived by: his wife Annette "Nettie" Horath (Deininger); his daughter Shari Whaley; his grandchildren, Amanda Blake (Matthew) and Tyler Whaley; his great grandchildren, Lyne Whaley and Sophia Blake; his stepchildren, Jim Ward (Buffy), Sean Ward and Jennifer Calkins; his stepgrandchildren, Logan, Hayden, Devan, Elizabeth Ward and Zach Calkins; his sister Shelbia Costa (late Jim); his sister-in-law Michelle "Mike" Gottfried (late Tom); and his nieces and nephews, James, Timothy, Vincent Costa, Anna Stouffer (Mace), Molly Gottfried, Lizabeth Costa (Timothy), Paul, Greg, Andy Horath, Laura and Leatta Horath.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 11th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home (3200 Black Rd, Joliet, IL 60431). A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 11th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 11:45 AM at the same location. A burial will be held on Friday, July 11th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery (20953 W Hoff Rd, Elwood, IL 60421).
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the charity of the donor's choice.
