He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald Johnston and Frances Johnston (Wasner); his grandparents, John, Mayme Johnston (Laisure), Peter and Wilhelmina Wasner (DeKok); and his brother-in-law Dennis Hodge.
He is survived by: his wife Sharon Eileen Grimes of Kewanee; his children, Yanna Johnston of Kewanee and Duane Johnston (Lisa) of Kewanee; his sister Barb Speer (Kip) of Kewanee; his grandchildren, Patrick McMeekan (Alissa), Preston Bustillos (Richard), Payton McMeekan (Gabrielle), Blake Johnston, Tyler Johnston and Hunter Johnston; his great grandchildren, Daphne, Emery, Lucas and Josiah; and his nieces and nephews, Carrie Winter (Todd), Chad Hodge (Wendy), Garth Grimes, Chandra Dowda, Stephanie Aguilar, Ray Grimes (Katy), David Grimes (Laura), Tiffany Chavez (Joe), Lisa Friedrich (Mark), Alan Homer (Carey), Shelley Kinzer (Bruce) and Jen Peed (Gene).
Visitation was held on Friday, September 11th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the First Christian Church (105 Dwight St, Kewanee, IL 61443). A memorial service was held on Friday, September 11th 2026 at 3:00 PM at the same location.
