He was predeceased by: his parents, Freeman Emmanuel and Lydia Whelchel (Batson); and his siblings, Roy Whelchel, Rose Johnson and Pauline Stoneham.

He is survived by: his children, Tara Donoho (Daniel) of Salem, Kevin Whelchel of Kinmundy and Roy Wren (Kristina) of Kinmundy; his grandchildren, Tashina Wren, Ashante Wren, McKenzie Espinoza (Eli), Victoria Donoho, Hunter Donoho, Raven Donoho, Karter Donoho and Raelynn Donoho; his great grandchild Erza Espinoza; and his siblings, Edward Leon Whelchel of Patoka, Carolyn Endicott of Shawneetown and Patricia Ilene Gossage of Salem.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Roy Wren to help offset expenses.
