He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Lane and Floy Mae Lane (Banks); his uncles, Marlyn Banks (Myrna) and Melvin Banks (Mildred); his brother Leon; and his sister-in-law Dorothy Madey.

He is survived by: his wife Mary Jean; his children, Jackie Lane and Jeff Lane (Kammie); his grandson Jarrett Hill (Katie Bannick); and his brothers-in-law, Ben Madey (Sandy) and John Madey (Pat).

In lieu of flowers, memorials in his honor may be made in care of Kirkland Fire Department and DeKalb County Sheriff's Office.

“Gene will surely be missed. When our group of farmers met at Hintzshe/Helena for morning discussions they were entertaining to say the least. Gene was a good "stir the pot" kind of guy. He always had a knack for calling me when he knew I was on vacation well before 7:00 am. and we all know how "quiet" Gene is on the phone. I always enjoyed the many one on one conversations that we shared and I will surely miss him. May he rest at God's Peace.”
