He was predeceased by: his parents, Edwin Knolhoff and Elizabeth Knolhoff. He is survived by: his son Matthew Knolhoff; his grandchildren, Alex, Audrey and Evan Knolhoff; and his siblings, Dennis Knolhoff (Denise), Greg Knolhoff (Kim), Peggy Feldman (Jonathan), Janelle Wappel (Ralph) and Laurie Vollmer (Frank). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorial donations in Gary's honor can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
