Simon F. Handzik Obituary
We bid farewell to Simon F. Handzik of Lemont, Illinois, whose journey of life gracefully concluded on June 20, 2025 at the age of 93. Simon touched countless lives with warmth and kindness, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever echo in hearts. He was predeceased by: his parents, Anna Handzik (Nee Subr) and Joseph Handzik; his former wife Joan Handzik (Nee Cohan); his daughters, Nancy Hilgenbrink and Madeline Nabzdyk; and his siblings, George, Tom Handzik and Catherine Hines.
He is survived by: his wife Catherine Nabzdyk Handzik (Nee Gabel); his children, Ray Nabzdyk (Heidi), Mary Anne Mikota (Rich), Ken Handzik (Kat), Mary Claire Hauser (Jerry), Marge Nabzdyk (Sandy Bocklett), Marcie Barnett (Don), Eileen Durand (Dan), Carol Weivoda (Harlan), Ron Nabzdyk (Mui), Paul Handzik (Deb), Cathy Zamora and John Handzik (Jackie); his son-in-law Tom Hilgenbrink; and his sister-in-law Helen Gabel. He is also survived by grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a large extended family.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 29th 2025 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the O'Neil Funeral Home Chapel (1105 E 9th St, Lockport, IL 60441). A prayer will be held on Monday, June 30th 2025 at 9:00 AM at the same location. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, June 30th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Marion Village Chapel (15624 Marian Dr, Homer Glen, IL 60491).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Marian Village, Franciscan Village, or Dementia Society of America in Simon's name would be greatly appreciated.
