It is with great sadness that we announce the death of LaVergne J. Counter of Lockport, Illinois, who passed away on June 22, 2025, at the age of 76, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Lenore Mellin and Arthur Mellin; and her former husband Earl R. Counter. She is survived by: her husband Stephen Barrix; her grandchildren, Candice Roth (Dan), Alan Staedt (Ella), Tori Lehrer (Nicholas), Coco Counter and Frances Counter; her stepson Charles Barrix (Lisa); and her brother Arthur Mellin (Dorothy). She is also survived by three great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Sunday, June 29th 2025 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Palos-Gaidas Funeral Home & Cremation Services (11028 SW Hwy, Palos Hills, IL 60465). A funeral service was held on Monday, June 30th 2025 at 10:30 AM at the same location. A burial was held on Monday, June 30th 2025 from 11:15 AM to 11:45 AM at the St Mary Cemetery (8700 S Hamlin Ave, Chicago, IL 60652).
