He was predeceased by: his sisters, Marilyn, Arlene and Dianne. He is survived by: his children, David Carlson (Tammi), Paul Carlson and Anne Johnson (Trent); his grandchildren, Ashley (Jeff), D. J., Brittany (Daniel), Dylan, Brooke, David Jr. and Quinn; his sister Linda (Michael); and also Carl. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
