She is survived by : her parents, John Fritts and Donna Fritts; her siblings, Natalie (Dave) and John (Susan); her sons, Eric (Linn) and Brett (Christine); and her former life partner Frederick. She is also survived by four grandchildren.

During her PhD and postdoctoral work, she was awarded the Golden Apple Award for Graduate Student Teaching, an American Heart Association graduate student grant, and the Kate Barany Outstanding Graduate Student Award.
