He was predeceased by: his wife Jennifer Copeland (Atkinson); his parents, Syble Copeland and Henry Copeland; and his sister Betty Gosnell (Copeland). He is survived by: his brother Alan Copeland; his daughters, Felicia Laundry (Troy), Jennifer Copeland (Thomas Shaw) and Rachel Copeland; his former wife Jacqueline Griswold; his grandchildren, Kayleigh, Alyssa, Andrew, Caden, Brandon and Noah; his nephew Michael Gosnell (Colleen); his nieces, Amie Love (David), Vera Atkinson (Dylan) and Jessica Erdman; his mother-in-law Patricia Atkinson; and his brother-in-law Jeff Atkinson. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made in Butch's memory to Shriners Children's Chicago.
