He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter August and Esther Mae Stern (Quackenbush); and his son-in-law Shawn Hunter. He is survived by: his wife Mary Hawk (Manning); his children, Bob Stern of Walnut, Brian Hawk (Melissa) of Nebraska, Kim Madden (Joe) of Tennessee, Kelly Gockel (Dan) of Sterling, Beth Conrady (Bob) of Prophetstown, Becky Hunter of Rock Falls and Barb Eikenberry (Wayne) of Rock Falls; and his siblings, Ralph Stern of California and Ila Brinkkoeter of South Carolina. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
