She is survived by: her mother Shelley Meyer; her daughter Eleana Eckelbarger; her sister Jamie Zimmerman (Greg); her close friends, Rebecca, Brad Bach, Tanya Chambers-Doll, Mariah Doll, Courtney, Anthony Miceli, Rachel Peters and Evelyn Richards; and her caregivers, Froedtert and Madison. She is also survived by nieces and nephews; cousins; and a sister/brother.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Melanie's memory to Noah's Ark Animal Sanctuary, a local no-kill shelter in Rockford, Illinois.
