As Portia departs from our midst, her spirit ascends to join the cosmic dance of stars, a shimmering constellation of memories that will forever grace the night sky of the hearts of those who loved Portia. Though Portia may no longer walk beside us, her legacy lives on — a testament to the enduring power of love to transcend the boundaries of time and space.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Charles Hodges and Portia Hodges (Campbell); her husband William A. Downey; her daughters, Dianna C. Beck and Deborah J. Sallee; and her son-in-law Roger V. Sallee.
She is survived by: her friends, Dwight and Kay Morrow. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, September 30th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home (303 E Washington St, Macomb, IL 61455). A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 1st 2025 at 1:30 PM at the same location.
Memorials can be made, in Charlene's honor, to the McDonough District Hospital Hospice program, Wesley Village, or St. Jude.
