He was predeceased by: his parents, William Hugh II and Lillian Gelvin (Veren); his daughter Donna Kay Breen; his significant other Mary "Sue" Griswold; his siblings, Frances Downing (T. Scripps) and James "Jay" Gelvin; his nieces, Deborah Downing and Susan Brutlag; and his stepdaughter Theresa Sue Griswold.
He is survived by: his sons, William H. "Bill" Gelvin IV of Macomb, IL and John H. Gelvin of Macomb, IL; his stepdaughters, Lisa Ann Griswold of Keokuk, IA and Amy Jo O'Keefe of Springfield, IL; his niece Kathryn Downing Anane of Springfield, IL; and his grandchildren, Tyron E. Griswold of Macomb, IL, Ariana I. O'Keefe of San Diego, CA and Katherine S. O'Keefe of Seattle, WA..
