He is survived by: his wife Gloria Sax of Mahomet; his sons, Brett Merchen (Lacey Cowsky) of Chicago and Todd Merchen (Liz) of Cheltenham; his grandchildren, Theo and Lily Merchen of Cheltenham, England.; his sisters, Fern Nohr, Alice June Gilsdorf and Connie Rentschler; and his former wife Janet Merchen. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
