We are sad to announce that on July 19, 2025, at the age of 92, Richard Eugene Dickson of Makanda, Illinois, born in Carbondale, Illinois passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Elizabeth Krysher Dickson and Jason Milburn Dickson; and his grandparents, Maude Krysher (Spear) and Frank C. Krysher. He is survived by: his daughter Nancy Lee (Jeffrey) of Makanda, IL; his brothers, Robert Dickson (Joan) of Punta Gorda, FL and John Dickson (Linda) of Makanda, IL.; his grandchildren, Jill DeQuardo (Nick) of Pewaukee, WI, Mallory Kelley (Scott) of Waubeka, WI and Calvin Eugene Alderete (Laynie) of Portland, CT; his great grandchildren, William Scott Kelley and Jack Eugene Kelley; and also, Carol Dickson (Overlease) of Grafton, WI and Diane Dickson Alderete (Jason) of Durham, CT.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 25th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Crain Funeral Home - Downtown Murphysboro (1421 Walnut St, Murphysboro, IL 62966). A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 25th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at the same location.
His scientific and technical works were major contributions to international literature on tree physiology that is still being used and cited by researchers throughout the world.
