Patricia A. Hartman Obituary

Patricia A. Hartman of Manteno passed away January 17, 2024 at Riverside Hospital at the age of 94.

She was born September 26, 1929 at her home, 36 Burton Avenue, Waukegan, IL, to Viola Meyer Bourelle and Oscar "Buzz" Bourelle. "Patsy" as she was called as a child, was baptized at the First United Methodist Church of Waukegan. Her family moved to Evanston where she graduated from Evanston Township High School in 1947.

She was preceded in death by her husband Norman "Bud" Hartman, it was by chance they were married. Set up on a blind date, it was mistaken identity, but evidently it worked, they were married 73 years. Also preceding her a daughter Sandy, her parents Viola Meyer Bourelle and Oscar Bourelle, in-laws Nellie Hazelton Hartman and Franklin W. Hartman, a sister Madelyn Rose Merwin, her beloved dog Abby and many nieces and nephews.

Pat was a member of the Manteno United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir for years and as a trustee. Also, a past member of Manteno Sportsmen's Club and Auxiliary, respectively where she held offices, she was a member of the now defunct Manteno Municipal Golf Course, a founding member of the Manteno Historical Society and a member of Kankakee Duplicate Bridge Organization. She also kept the bench warm as the only sub for her daughter's Manteno Sweet Talkers softball team at tournament time, with sadness she was not called upon to play. She was also an accomplished artist, porcelain painting being her choice.

Her and Bud were incredible grandparents to Lucy and Cally. Whether a 2-minute part in a school skit or a 2-hour dance recital they would make the 2-hour drive to Bloomington to be there in the audience. They also pooled their talents for holiday decorations or anything else the girls needed. She made incredible birthday cakes. a skill she learned from her mother, from castles, to guitars, to aliens, to Disney theme park rides, swimming pools, iPods, endless ideas.

Pat started working at an early age, telling a little white lie that she was 16, when only 14. She worked at Kresne and Wieholts in Evanston Marshall Fields in Chicago. The family moved to Manteno in 1949 where she went to work for Illinois Bell in Kankakee. She retired from City National Bank to start their family.

Pat was the go-to mom on the block, always having that one thing needed for a project. Her door was always open to her nieces and nephews when they were in Manteno visiting their grandparents, she loved to play and/or teach card or board games and always had time for the Kids.

Still active and living in her own home, she would frequently be on her iPad keeping up with friends and family and the latest news. She was also in strong opposition of the Gotion Battery Factory coming to Manteno. She could not understand how something of this magnitude was not presented to the citizens of Manteno for discussion. In her words "a sad day for the future of Manteno".

Pat is survived by two daughters, Linda Hartman of Newport Beach, CA and Diana Bloxam of Bloomington, IL, two granddaughters Lucy Ann Bloxam (Jordan Tassio) of Chicago, IL and Cally Rose Bloxam (Elvis Reyes) of Orlando, FL, many nieces and nephews, of note Donna Hayes of Virginia Beach who kept Aunt Pat company for the last 5 months, a cousin, more a friend, Frankie Senesac, and her neighbors of 56 years, special friends, Annette and Rondy Lamore.

Visitation will be Saturday February 3, 2024, from 10am to 11:30am with services immediately following at the Brown-Jensen Funeral Home in Manteno. Pastor Lana Robyne will officiate. Burial will follow in Deselm Cemetery and commence with a luncheon at Pat's home.
