He was predeceased by: his parents, Louis Spurgeon and Ava Spurgeon (Frye); his son Bruce Dale Spurgeon; and his sister Norma Benson. He is survived by: his wife JoAnn Overbeck; his son Todd Spurgeon (Tina) of Bartonville; his sister-in-law Karen Nelson (Bill) of Florida; and his sibling's children, Ellen Litteken (Jeff) of St. Peters, Tracy Dye (Forrest) of Texas, Alissa Sutherland (Al) of Texas and Michael Benson (Barb) of Missouri.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bruce Dale Spurgeon Scholarship care of Illinois Central College.
