He was predeceased by: his parents, Joe Thome and Helen Thome (Rothas); his wife Charlene Preus; and his daughter Melissa (Rhino). He is survived by: his sons, Dirk (Heather), Troy (Megan) and Blake (Kara); his grandchildren, Alex, Nicole, Lydia, Teaghan, McKenna, Burke, Hayden, Jack, Elizabeth and Dustin; his brother Reese Thome (Vickie); and his brother-in-law Charlie Preus (Janice). He is also survived by nieces and nephews, and many cousins.
