He was predeceased by: his parents, John T. Hanley and Mary Hanley (McLeod); his stepfather John Eisen; and his former wife Ann Marie Boudewyns. He is survived by: his wife Jo Mayer (Wetstein) of Marion; his daughters, Keely Ann Hanley (Joseph Anshel) of Naperville, IL and Hillari Marie Hanley of Marion; his stepsons, Michael Joseph Mayer (Kate Andersen) of Ft. Worth, TX and William Matthew Mayer of Marion; his grandchildren, Sean Anshel, Ian Garcia, Amelia Angle-Mayer, Madeleine Andersen and Eleanor Mayer; his siblings, Barbara Sullivan of Delmar, CA and David Eisen (Carmen Severino) of Naperville; and his siblings-in-law, Edith Wetstein, Rose Hogan (Ray), Mary Clair Schaefer (Steve), Mark Wetstein (Julia), Matthew Wetstein (Cindy), John Wetsein (Vanessia), Paula Corwin (Timothy Kathrein) and Kenneth Wetstein (Carrie). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 11th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the St. Joseph Catholic Church (600 N Russell St, Marion, IL 62959). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 11th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location. His final assignment—serving on the Navajo Reservation during the Covid pandemic—was especially meaningful to him.
For those who prefer, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to "St. Jude Children's Research Hospital" or the "Marion Ministerial Alliance.".
