He was predeceased by : his parents, Leroy E. Barnes and Phyllis Barnes (Storm). He is survived by : his wife Cathy Barnes; his children, William B. "Buck" Barnes and Rebecca L. Ritz (Ben); his grandson Connor Ritz; and his brother Paul W. Barnes (Pege). He is also survived by in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, April 10th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Schilling Funeral Home (1301 Charleston Ave, Mattoon, IL 61938). A funeral Mass was held on Thursday, April 11th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (320 N 21st St, Mattoon, IL 61938).

Memorial donations in his honor may be given to the Lake Land College Foundation, AG Scholarship or the Windsor Harvest Picnic.
