Elaine Powell Obituary
With sadness, we share the passing of Elaine Powell in Mattoon, Illinois. Elaine, born on January 5, 1930, passed away on September 13, 2026. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Claud Lyle and Helen Cochrane Keller; her former spouse Thomas Lee Sullan; her husband Alfred D. Powell, Sr.; her sister Joanne Pleasant; her nephew Christopher; and her close friend John Stoddard.
She is survived by: her sons, Gary Keller Sullan (Kelly) of Champaign and Brian Thomas Sullan (Marti) of Champaign; her grandchildren, Leigh Kaisen of Portland, OR, Matthew Sullan of Champaign, Reid Sullan of Champaign and Kyle Sullan of Denver, CO; her niece Mary Jo Gardere (John) of Dallas, TX; and her nephew Ross Cardin (Debbie) of Hardy, AR.. She is also survived by family and friends who will remember her as a wonderful mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, aunt, and friend.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 21st 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home (215 E Washington St, Monticello, IL 61856). A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 21st 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Piatt County Nursing Home Foundation, 1111 N. State St., Monticello, IL 61856 with "PCNH Activities" designated or the First Presbyterian Church of Monticello, 214 S. Charter St., Monticello, IL 61856 (General Fund) which was always a wonderful support group for her.
