He was predeceased by: his wife Sara Scarbro. He is survived by: his daughter Rebecca Black (Justin) of Mattoon, IL; his grandchild Hiro Black of Mattoon, IL; and his siblings, Bug Fender of Florida, Charlie Fender of Florida and Joyce Fender of Florida.

Memorial donations in his honor may be given to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
