He was predeceased by : his parents, Irvin Kohl and Wreatha Kohl (Elston) of Mechanicsburg, Illinois.; his brothers, Harvey Kohl, LeRoy Kohl and John Kohl; and his brother-in-law Bobbie Powell.

He is survived by : his siblings, Ruth Ann Powell (Kohl) of Rochester and Joe Kohl (Beth) of Edinburg; his niece Becky Nevill (Douglas) of Rochester; his brother Jerry Kohl (Jeanetta) of Springfield; his sisters-in-law, Bonnie Kohl (Stogdell) of Mechanicsburg and Carol Kohl (Aufrecht) of Taylorville; and his brother Jim Kohl. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or by planting a tree on Jay's behalf.
