She is survived by: her children, Matthew Schroeder (Jennifer) and Roberta Ahlberg (Scott); her grandchildren, Joshua, Molly, Joseph Schroeder, Jacob and Samuel Ahlberg; her great grandchildren, Little Winnie and Baby Hazel; and her siblings, Pam Reckwerdt (David Feela), Sue Busse (Glenn) and Paul Reckwerdt (Ellen Rosner).
Memorials may be directed to the family for a donation to the University of Illinois - Chicago Children's Hospital in memory of Melanie and her son Michael.
