It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Hartzel Lee Black of Metropolis, Illinois, who passed away on April 27, 2026, at the age of 82, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Theodore Black and Edith Virginia Black (Smith); and his siblings, Joyce Faye Flynn and Eugene Lavern Black. He is survived by: his wife Loralea Black; his children, Sheri Donahue (Jeff), Jeri Miller (Scott), Mark Black (Trista), Gina Strothmann (Kevin) and Gay Hammond (Rob); his grandchildren, Shelbey Johnson (Kevin), Molly Donahue (Nick Frey), Jaxton Black, Whittney Strothmann, Kyle Strothmann (Brittany), Bryson Hammond (Lana), Alecia Boss (Nate) and Brad Hammond (Peyton); his uncle Verl Smith; and his aunts, Barbara Rohrer and Francis Goins. He is also survived by 12 great grandchildren, several cousins and many friends.
