He was predeceased by: his parents, Clayton Slater and Ruth Anderson Slater; and his sister Patricia Johnson. He is survived by: his wife Connie Slater of Milan; his children, Kelly Atkins (Rick) of Andalusia and Craig Slater of Viola; his grandchildren, Sara Dekeyrel (Mike), Nathan Slater and Travis Atkins (Felicia); and his great grandchildren, Carsen, Cain, Callen, Addison Dekeyrel, Elliana and Olivia Atkins.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 21st 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Viola Cemetery (1117 Norlawn Dr, Viola, IL 61486).
Memorial contributions may be left to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center.
