He was predeceased by: his father Elwyn Ecker. He is survived by: his mother Mary Louise Ecker (Lewis); his children, Halie Ecker and Adam Dawson; his siblings, Douglas Ecker (Jeanne) and Debra Crawford (Mike); his grandchildren, Charlotte, Maxim and Sullivan; his daughter Dawn Dawson-Ecker; his nephew Ryan Dierks (Brittany); and his niece Erica Waterman (Jake).

Memorials may be made to Ducks Unlimited or YouthHope, Moline.
