He was predeceased by: his parents, Dr. Robert J. Moon and Christine Moon (Nee Monpleasure); and his sister Mary Beth Booth. He is survived by: his son Rob; his daughter-in-law Lisa Moon; his grandchildren, Hunter James, Adele of Chicago and Simone of Chicago; and his sisters, Julia "Judy" Jennings and Margaret "Peg" Chambers.

He was a Life Member of the Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association and the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation.
