He was predeceased by : his parents, Robert N. Spain and Buenos Spain (Jeffryes); and his sister Margaret Utterback (Frank). He is survived by : his wife Genita M. Barber; his children, Michael Spain, Shawn Spain (Karen) and Merry Spain (Ryan Mitro); and his grandchildren, Natalie, Robert, Clayton, Timothy, Asher, Phoebe and Melanie. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the Parkinson's Foundation.
