He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Axcell and Ava Lillian Axcell (Higginson); his son John Axcell; and his siblings, Donald Axell, Marilyn Johnson and Mary O'Brien.
He is survived by: his wife Sandra Axcell of Monmouth; his son Dennis Axcell of Galesburg, IL; his stepsons, Jeff Smith (Sandra) of Monmouth and Greg Smith of Christina, TN; his grandchildren, Kathleen Axcell, Jeffrey A. Smith (Darlene), Tarra Lock (Jon), Chelsea Teel (Nick) and Shanell Siemans (Justin); and his sister Martha Flesher. He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 23rd 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory (1007 North G Street, Monmouth, IL 61462). The military honors will be held on Thursday, October 23rd 2025 from 6:00 PM to 6:15 PM at the same location.
Memorials may be given to Western Illinois Animal Rescue (WIAR) or St. Jude Children's Hospital and sent to the funeral home.
