He was predeceased by: his parents, Leonard Dean (Buck) and Bonnie Dean (Frye); his brother-in-law Charlie Adkins; and his niece Dixie Dean. He is survived by: his children, Cindy Slack (Chris) of Arcola and Greg (Brenda) of Manito; his grandchildren, Melissa Blackwell of Mattoon, Laura Chancellor (Bryan) of Arcola, Chet Dean (Rayanda) and Carson Dean (Kylie) of Manito; his great grandchildren, William Blackwell, JC Blackwell, Hudson Kinney, Ava Chancellor, Brynn Chancellor, Colt Dean, Cooper Dean, Stetson Dean and Bryson Emery; and his siblings, Deloris "Snooky" Adkins of Monticello and Ronnie Dean (Phyllis) of Monticello.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
