He was predeceased by: his parents, J. Elbert Elam and Alverne Elam (Colwell); and his wife June. He is survived by: his children, Gary Elam (Mary) of Missouri, Terry Elam (Leslie) of Iowa and Judy Shelton (late Dennis) of Morris; his sisters, Lois Snyder of Morris and Barbara Crandall of Washington State; and his siblings-in-law, Donald Wright of Washington State and Kathy Elam of Washington State. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren.
