He was predeceased by: his parents, Merle Atherton and Ihla Atherton (Jones); and his brothers, John, Richard and Larry.

He is survived by: his wife Margo Pfeiffer; his children, Kelly Atherton Vegter (Mike) and Robert Craig Atherton (Marianne); his grandchildren, Michael Atherton Vegter, Samuel Robert Atherton, Nicholas Jordan Atherton and Hannah Grace Norman; and his great grandchild Emerson William Vegter.
