He was predeceased by: his parents, Conrad "Pete" Swanson and Edith Swanson (Ross); his wife Anne Eninger; his siblings, Elsie Swanson, John, Howard, David and Leland Swanson; and his son-in-law Mike DeSpain.

He is survived by: his children, Connie Swanson-DeSpain of Morrison, IL, Hope MacLennan of Clinton, IA and Steven Swanson of Morrison, IL; his grandchildren, Faith White (Dylon), Alex MacLennan and Xaverri MacLennan; his great grandchildren, Ansley and Roland MacLennan; and his brother William Swanson (Deb) of Morrison, IL. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A memorial has been established to King's Kloset in Erie, IL.
