He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Maurer and Edith Smith Maurer; his wife Patricia Buchanan; his brothers, Carl and Maurice; his grandson Carter Maurer; and his great grandchild Tripp Dobbins.
He is survived by: his children, Ralph Maurer (Lori) of Lenoir City, TN, Dr. Ted Maurer (Heidi) of Morton, Mary Beth Pederson (Brian) of Morton, Bruce Maurer (Cindy) of Bryant, AR and Heidi Rottier (Dave) of Washington; his grandchildren, Dr. Leah Dobbins (Nate), Carrie Gray (Chris), Dr. Paige Yousef (Andrew), Ben Maurer, Heidi Pederson, Katie, Kara, Connor, Callie, Carson Maurer and Elin Rottier; and his great grandchildren, Sawyer, Avery, Tessa Dobbins, Eloise, Archer, Shepard Gray and Blaine Bastian.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that memorial donations be made to Christian Life Academy in Hopedale, to continue Al's lifelong work of teaching and mentoring young people.
