We announce the death of Aleta Phelps of Mount Carmel, Illinois, born in Sparta, Tennessee, who passed away on July 13, 2026, at the age of 74. Aleta will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. She was predeceased by: her parents, Howard Rayborn and Lura V. Rayborn (Lowhorn); her husband James Edward Phelps; her daughter Jennifer Phelps; her siblings, Delmar Rayborn, Danny Rayborn, David Rayborn, Johnny Rayborn, Mildred Cowling, Kathy Whitten, Dean Willis, Frances Wood, Margaret Stiles and Melba Bray; and her son-in-law Jason Woods.

She is survived by: her children, Timothy Burton (Kristi) of Princeton, IN, Michael Burton (Shelly) of Mt. Carmel, IL, Deanna Woods of Mt. Carmel, IL, Cynthia Phelps (Mike Lagow) of Mt. Carmel, IL and Stephanie Umfleet (William) of Mt. Carmel, IL; her grandchildren, Tyler Phelps, William Umfleet, Natasha Groff, Chassie Umfleet, Alyssa Perry, Cheyenne Pierce, Telisha Ridgley, Robert Ridgley, Nathan Woods, Michael Burton, Erica Burton, Timia Butler, Zack Burton, Triston Phelps, Bryson Phelps and Dayton Brimm; her brother Dody Rayborn (Vickie) of Bellmont, IL; her niece Angie Kolb; her great-niece Lisa Price; and her caregivers, Melinda John and Terri Brown. She is also survived by 39 great-grandchildren.
