He was predeceased by : his parents, Orie Staley and Edith Staley (Scott); his granddaughter Whitney Elizabeth Smith; and his siblings, Elmer Staley, Harry Staley, Bob Staley and Eloise Pakish.
He is survived by : his wife Phyllis Staley of Mt. Vernon; his children, Howard Wayne Staley, Jr. (Jill) of Mt. Vernon, Tammy Jo Smith (Woody) of Mt. Vernon, Thaddeus Scott Staley (Sarah) of Mt. Vernon and Emily Aline Taskoski (Ron) of Jonesboro, Arkansas; his grandchildren, Joshua Smith (Jamie) of Dix, Kaleb Smith (Erika) of Glen Carbon, Elijah Smith (Marlene) of Sesser, Matthew Staley (Jade) of Wayne City, Melody Gallo (Andrew) of Dix, Seth Staley of Mt. Vernon, Dagny Taskoski of Jonesboro and Hannah McKinney of Mt. Vernon; his great grandchildren, Rhett, Aubrey, Jerritt Staley, Kalvin, Elaina, Emilia, Penelope, Oren and Abram Smith; his brother Ivan Staley (Frances) of Mt. Vernon; and his siblings-in-law, Pat Staley of Mt. Vernon, Reva French of Mt. Vernon, Roger Scott of Mt. Vernon and Tommy Scott of Mt. Vernon. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
