She was predeceased by: her parents, Roy Rash and Allie Rash (McLaughlin); her former husband David Bates; her son Barney Bates; and her sisters, Berniece, Nelda and Johnetta.
She is survived by: her husband Richard Whaley; her children, James "Jim" Bates, Faith of Garland and Cyndi Horton (Joel) of Keenes, Illinois; and her daughter-in-law Lisa Bates. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; one niece; and two nephews.
