He is survived by : his wife Kathy; his stepchildren, Jeffrey Ross Wimberly of Miami Beach and Leighann Collins Wimberly of DuQuoin; his sister-in-law Rebecca Collins Schmitt (Steve); his nephews, Paul and Reed Schmitt; his niece Amy Hallinan; his sister Rebecca Blackward Grothoff of Mt. Vernon; his niece Vanessa Blackward Shaw; his great-niece Tori Shaw; his great-nephew Tanner Shaw of Mt. Vernon; his stepsiblings, Barbara Brake (Richard) of Marion and Gordon Page (Patty); and his cousins, Marguerite Moore Koland of Iowa City, Marjorie Hollingsworth of Marionville, Gene Foreman and IIlinois.

Visitation was held on Sunday, April 21st 2024 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Hughey Funeral Home (1314 Main St, Mt Vernon, IL 62864). A funeral service was held on Sunday, April 21st 2024 at 2:00 PM at the same location.

Memorials may be made in Smokey's honor to MVTHS Boys and Girls Golf or Centralia Humane Society, from which Maggie Mae, the family dog, was rescued.
