He was predeceased by: his son James S. Smith III (Susan); his parents, James S. Smith, Sr. and Ruth Smith; and his siblings, Margaret Jansky and Robert Smith.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Louise Smith; his daughter Margaret Keough (John) of Plainfield, IL; his grandchildren, Mary Anna Keough (Mike DeMeritt), Laney Keough, Erin Scott (Brett), Grace Keough (Tim), Clare Spillers (David), John Keough, Shannon Keough, Paige and Tyler Smith; his great grandchildren, Layla, Dallas, Delilah, Payton Ruth, Thomas, John, Margaret DeMeritt and Quinn Scott; and his siblings, Lori Winandy and Brian Smith.
